About Our Academy

Butterfly Guard LLC (DBA Engle Jiu Jitsu) is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy in Henderson, Nevada, serving Henderson, Las Vegas, and the surrounding valley. We've been teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the Las Vegas area since 2012.

Our academy is at 2871 N. Green Valley Pkwy, in the plaza — look for the yellow Jiu-Jitsu sign. There's plenty of parking, two restrooms, and a changing area on site.

Who We Serve

We train kids as young as four, teenagers, and adults of every age and fitness level. Most of our students walk in having never trained a martial art before. Others come to us with years of experience, from other gyms, from wrestling backgrounds, or to prepare for competition. Classes typically run ten to thirty students for kids and ten to forty for adults, so there's always a range of training partners and a coach paying attention.

What We Offer

Kids Jiu-Jitsu (ages 4–7) — "Itty Bitty."

An introduction to Jiu-Jitsu built around coordination, balance, listening, and having fun on the mats. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons.

Traditional Jiu-Jitsu in the gi (uniform), the foundation of the art. Morning, midday, and evening classes, Monday through Friday.

Women's Jiu-Jitsu. A women-only class on Monday evenings, open to all levels including complete beginners. Women are also welcome in every other class on our schedule.

Saturday mornings for members — no formal instruction, just time to drill and roll with your training partners.

Private Lessons. One-on-one instruction with our coaches, available by arrangement for students who want focused work on a specific area.

What is Jiu-Jitsu?

Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art that primary focuses on ground fighting and is considered by most one of the most effective martial arts for self defense. It is also one of the few martial arts that fighting off your back can be used to ones advantage. Jiu- Jitsu focuses on understanding the principle of "leverage" thus allowing a weaker (smaller) force to over come a stronger force through the application or proper technique rather than strength and aggression. Jiu-Jitsu utilizes the application of joint locks and chokes to control opponent or risk bodily harm.
